When he was in the Government holding the portfolio of Finance Minister, Anwar Ibrahim was so close to the King of Gamblers in this side of the world, the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong. Often times, Anwar would go on short breaks or spend weekends with his family in Genting Highlands, fully sponsored by Genting.
The Special Assistant to Lim Goh Tong, who at that time was an Indian, also spent much of his working hours at Anwar’s office. Today, it has been reported that Anwar is aggressively helping the man to explore business opportunities overseas.
It is also well-known that Anwar is very close to another casino owner, Tan Sri Vincent Tan. Whenever he goes abroad, Vincent will assign a special representative to tag along with the entourage so as to take care of Anwar’s welfare.
The years may have passed and much water has flowed under the bridge but the bond of friendship between Anwar and Tan Sri Vincent Tan is as strong as ever. The PKR headquarters, identified by the glaring red neon sign with the word KEADILAN at the front is very hard to miss.
The building, located near the Damansara Toll Plaza is the product of Anwar’s arrangements with Datuk Danny Tan, Tan Sri Vincent Tan’s brother.
